On behalf of faculty and staff of Department of Geomatics Engineering, Kathmandu University (KU), I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all as members of Department of Geomatics Engineering family.
It is also my immense pleasure and pride to share with you my opinion as the Head of Department of Geomatics Engineering. The Department was established in 2019 as the youngest Department of School of Engineering, Kathmandu University.
We have BE in Geomatics Engineering as an Undergraduate program with an intake of 60 students per year. Similarly, we have two graduate programs Master in Land Administration and ME/MS in Geoinformatics with an intake of 10 students in each program. We have also the PhD program running at the Department. All the programs running in the Department is in collaboration with Land Management Training Center (LMTC), Government of Nepal under the framework of MoU.
Project and problem based teaching learning process has been the signature of Kathmandu University and the Department of Geomatics Engineering has been very closely following this practices. Our graduates have been working in very good positions in different sectors such as academia, industry, government, non-government, private etc. both within Nepal and abroad. The Department has well trained and qualified faculties both from within Nepal and abroad serving the Department, the curriculum is revised in a timely manner and we work very closely with the industries and Geoinformation companies so that there is not much gap between what we teach and what is required in the real world situations.
We send our fourth year/second semester students for internship before they graduate. This has been very beneficial to them as they get to see the real working environment as well as envisage the required plan of actions to solve the geospatial problems. We also have been actively involved in research and development. We have surveying lab, photogrammetric lab and Geospatial lab in our Department.
Last but not least, we look forward to working with you and wish you all a rewarding and successful academic career!
Dr. Subash Ghimire
